In 1881 Henry James created the pictures of the good British society, on the scene of the gardens and the late Victorian living rooms. If The portrait of a lady was a woman image (the face and the gestures), James plotted with the same mystery on the portrait of a city, we would say of a life, between the post Victorian England and the ‘New World’. The idea of drawing A portrait of Lady was born exactly twenty-seven years after the Hard Times of Charles Dickens: The Portrait of Coketown, the other industrial city.

Abstract
In 1881 Henry James created the pictures of the good British society, on the scene of the gardens and the late Victorian living rooms. If The portrait of a lady was a woman image (the face and the gestures), James plotted with the same mystery on the portrait of a city, we would say of a life, between the post Victorian England and the ‘New World’. The idea of drawing A portrait of Lady was born exactly twenty-seven years after the Hard Times of Charles Dickens: The Portrait of Coketown, the other industrial city.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
