In his expressionist prose, through the parody and travesty of ancient myths, Albert Ehrenstein represents the existential crisis of the modernist writer. Almost all of Ehrenstein’s characters are poet-wanderers who stumble without any orientation or aim through fragmented and disjointed worlds, which, because of their psychological destruction, they are not able to perceive anymore. This contribution focuses on various works (in particular the short story Tubutsch) in order to reproduce the visionary geography of the author’s eternal escape into the antiquity, whose figures, in physical or imaginary ways, hopelessly oscillate between alienated microcosms of a globalized macrocosm. Mostly in Tubutsch Ehrenstein, both destroyer and builder of myths, reveals the eternal return of the same as law of the modernity.
