Manuscripts of Ungaretti’s Travel Prose: 1929–1958 — In 1958 a piece of Ungaretti’s travel prose was published in «L’Approdo letterario». In the introductory note the poet describes it as an unpublished text dating back to thirty years before. The discovery in Leone Piccioni’s archive of a folder with three manuscripts of the prose reveals an intensive work of re-elaboration on the eve of the publication. This essay describes the documents and presents the original text with the apparatus of variants.
