Enhanced cross-compliance is thus the backbone of the reformed Common Agricultural Policy, where farmers, in order to benefit from European structural funds for agriculture, are required to comply with a number of obligations not only in terms of how they grow crops and raise livestock, but also in terms of the environmental management of their land.
