Abstract

The pathway towards smartness requires the Destination to promote the development of new forms of participation and sharing that modify the way the visitor interacts - with residents, suppliers, other tourists and destination stakeholders - and integrates with his surroundings, improving the quality of the experience lived in the destination. This paper aims at contributing to the scientific debate around the topic of smart tourism, adopting the Service Dominant Logic framework as an interpretative lens. We focus on the initial step of the “smartization” process undertaken in the city of Naples, thanks to the initiatives developed by High Technology District for Cultural Heritage management, set up on October 2012 in Campania (Italy). A case study approach is employed to collect relevant evidence and gather significant practical insights on both Smart Tourism Destination and territory value co-creation.
