The paper retraces, through the unpublished correspondence between the poet Carlo Betocchi (1899-1986) and Leone Piccioni (1925) - literary critic and Rai’s manager -, their relationship during the years 1949-1983. An authentic testimony based on reciprocal humane and cultural support comes to light; specially two aspects appear particularly significant in this correspondence, the first one is the performing role as “mecenate” of Piccioni towards Betocchi during all the period. The second one concerns the influence Betocchi wants to exercise through the letters on Piccioni’s critics: Betocchi’s purpose is to make Piccioni known as the best Catholic critic in Italy over the second half of twentieth century.
