The book examines H. James's thought on letter-writing/reading as it emerges from the pages of the writer's personal correspondence and in some fictional representations of the epistolary practice, in official letters and in fictional stories about letters, so that it is possible to outline the portrait of the author as an artist "of" and "on" the letter. The situation of letter writing/reading reiterates the themes of the Jamesian poetics, establishing itself as the place of ambiguity, and of the human life subject to the dangers of the fire, as the area of destruction and birth, as the space where a deeply hidden truth lies and has to be protected while revealing itself.

Abstract
The book examines H. James's thought on letter-writing/reading as it emerges from the pages of the writer's personal correspondence and in some fictional representations of the epistolary practice, in official letters and in fictional stories about letters, so that it is possible to outline the portrait of the author as an artist "of" and "on" the letter. The situation of letter writing/reading reiterates the themes of the Jamesian poetics, establishing itself as the place of ambiguity, and of the human life subject to the dangers of the fire, as the area of destruction and birth, as the space where a deeply hidden truth lies and has to be protected while revealing itself.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
