The literary, poetic and essay evidences that are selected and analyzed in this collection represent a theoretical and poetic synthesis of the profound reasons that make the crib a true theatrical machine and that, also, make the rituals of Christmas a total social fact. This anthropological analysis enucleates the discrete traits of the Neapolitan phenomenology of Christmas and at the same time takes this narrative material as “thick descriptions”, in the meaning given to this term by the anthropologist Clifford Geertz.
