The purpose of this paper is to show how excessive subjectivism is far from having an emancipatory effect but rather it makes difficult any appeal to values referring to joint or shared ideals and goals. As a consequence, replacing the idea of truth with that of negotiated knowledge is dangerous for democracy, which is the most powerful educational factor in emancipation. Considered in the variety of its dimensions of cultural and social participation, democracy is the condition to bridge the gap between school and society insofar as both are involved in a project of emancipation and human flourishing.
L’intento di questo scritto consiste nel mostrare come un soggettivismo spinto sia ben lungi dall’avere un effetto emancipativo, ma piuttosto renda difficile ogni appello a valori riferiti a progetti comuni o a ideali condivisi. Sostituire all’idea di verità oggettiva quella di conoscenza negoziata è pericoloso per la democrazia, che è il più potente fattore educativo e di emancipazione. Considerata nella varietà dei suoi momenti di partecipazione culturale e sociale, la democrazia rappresenta la condizione per il reale superamento della frattura tra la scuola e la società, l’una e l’altra impegnate in un progetto di emancipazione e formazione umana.
