During the Fifties, the Neapolitan playwright Eduardo De Filippo experienced an intense activity in the film industry, working as an actor, writing scripts and screenplays, and adapting and directing for the screen some of his most famous masterpieces. Among the unrealized projects, he also developed with Antonio Ghirelli the film treament of La paura numero uno, an adaptation of the pièce staged in 1950 for a movie that should star the comedian Totò. Such a project, probably aborted because it was blocked by censorship, offers a special insight in Eduardo’s screenwriting techniques and in the strong dialogue between theatre and cinema in his long career.

Abstract
During the Fifties, the Neapolitan playwright Eduardo De Filippo experienced an intense activity in the film industry, working as an actor, writing scripts and screenplays, and adapting and directing for the screen some of his most famous masterpieces. Among the unrealized projects, he also developed with Antonio Ghirelli the film treament of La paura numero uno, an adaptation of the pièce staged in 1950 for a movie that should star the comedian Totò. Such a project, probably aborted because it was blocked by censorship, offers a special insight in Eduardo’s screenwriting techniques and in the strong dialogue between theatre and cinema in his long career.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
