The essay proposes a comprehensive and organic interpretation of the sixteenth-century fresco cycle decorat ing the three oldest rooms of the Mauriziano, the house of Ludovico Ariosto’s maternal family (the Malaguzzi) celebrated in Satira iv. It focus in particular on the iconography of the lunettes of the “Camerino degli Orazi e Curiazi”, showing that they are not – as long assumed – the translation into images of a novella from the Decameron, but a tribute to the memory of Flaminio Malaguzzi, who died at the age of ffteen in 1552 in Padua during his promising studies, and author of an inter esting comedy published posthumously, La Theodora
