In the season of cancel culture, while sociological knowledge has long appeared to be unbalanced towards formalism and structural-functionalism on the one hand, and quantitative-algorithmic readings of the world on the other, it is extraordinarily fascinating to come across a scholar who has had great luck, especially in the Anglo-Saxon world, because of his historicist approach to the analysis, especially political, of society: Gaetano Mosca. The reflection around the legacy that his writings have left us is the fulcrum of this short contribution, which starting from the work of this scholar tries to rethink, especially with reference to the work of the Spe Storia group, which officially started on June 7, 2024 at the Luigi Sturzo Institute, the refoundational-methodological and applicative possibilities of a sociological knowledge capable of claiming, precisely through historical knowledge, its own futurity and relevance within a renewed ability to read and interpret the phenomena of the world.
