The aim of this study is to investigate the broad panorama of information design and info-visualisation in different fields and at the same time to test their application in specific cases. The theoretical framework intends to deepen the characteristics and functions of the fields of application, starting with the definition of Information Visualisation. Particular attention is dedicated to geovisualisation and deep mapping, which prove to be effective in visualisations applied to geospatial data. Furthermore, the nature of Information Visualisation is explored through metaphorical representations and diagrammatic representations, of which definitions, traditional theories and application mechanisms are traced. Finally, the effectiveness of the practice of deep mapping is demonstrated through two case studies that have in common the use of literary and art-historical sources as tools for the identification of places and cultural assets that no longer exist and are therefore destined to be unknown.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the broad panorama of information design and info-visualisation in different fields and at the same time to test their application in specific cases. The theoretical framework intends to deepen the characteristics and functions of the fields of application, starting with the definition of Information Visualisation. Particular attention is dedicated to geovisualisation and deep mapping, which prove to be effective in visualisations applied to geospatial data. Furthermore, the nature of Information Visualisation is explored through metaphorical representations and diagrammatic representations, of which definitions, traditional theories and application mechanisms are traced. Finally, the effectiveness of the practice of deep mapping is demonstrated through two case studies that have in common the use of literary and art-historical sources as tools for the identification of places and cultural assets that no longer exist and are therefore destined to be unknown.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
