Abstract

The citadel of the Immaculate Conception in Naples is an architectural space in which two women's communities have coexisted for centuries: a Congregation and a strictly cloistered Hermitage. Rising between the end of the 16th century and the first half of the following one around the charism of the “bizzoca” Orsola Benincasa, supported by an active family network and guaranteed by the spiritual patronage of a newly founded order, this devotional hub was transformed into a long-lived city presence by the Regular Clerics who were rooting their houses in the capital in the same years
