The Rule of the Order of St John of Jerusalem was drawn up by 1153, presumably during the rule of the second master, Raymond du Puy. From the late 13th century onwards, it was transmitted in various manuscripts that also included the Hospitaller statutes and other normative, as well as narrative, texts written in both Latin and French. The first Italian vernacular translation of the Rule dates to the mid15th century and is published here in the appendix.
