Constellations and Refrac tions: Theme s, Source s, Legac y, and Inter pre ter s of Max Weber . A Surve y of the Curre nt State of Researc h. Max Weber stands among the great interpreters of the period between the late 19th and early 20th centuries and, even more so, among the most eminent and innovative figures in the European and Western research tradition. His work has inspired new methodological and disciplinary approaches, capturing the attention of generations of scholars with diverse perspectives and interests. Starting from the volume Costellazione Max Weber, this contribution reconstructs the current state of research on the themes, sources, legacy, and interpreters of Max Weber. The structure of the exposition follows a dual approach, combining a comparative principle with a thematic one: alongside Weber’s dialogue with thinkers from various eras (from Rickert to Lukács, from Albert Lange to Alfred Schütz, and many others), key themes emerge, including the methodology of the historical-social sciences, the relationship between religion and rationalization, culture and sociology, science and its crisis, and the interplay between reason, irrationalism, and the human freedom. The result is a comprehensive overview that updates the latest research on Max Weber while laying the groundwork for new avenues of inquiry and future “refractions” of his thought.
