The article presents notarial documents relating to the Calabri an painters Marco Cardisco and Pietro Negroni, who were among the principal artists active in Naples in the sixteenth century. Our knowl edge of Cardisco, the only southern Italian master to be the subject of a biography by Vasari, is enhanced by a rare deed of 1538 regarding an altarpiece painted for the church of Santa Croce in Torre del Greco, now lost. As for Negroni, three documents have come to light, includ ing the 1540 commission for the polyptych formerly on the high altar of the church of the Minimi in Corigliano Calabro, of which only the crowning panel with the Holy Trinity survives. Finally, building on a previously unnoticed remark by Sebastiano Resta, the author proposes that the original location of Negroni’s Way to Calvary, now in the col lection of the Monte dei Paschi Bank in Siena, was the monastic church of Materdomini, near Nocera Superiore in the Province of Salerno
