Dopo una premessa sull’operazione della periodizzazione storica, il contributo si sofferma sull’utilizzo da parte della storiografia della battaglia di Azio (31 a.C.) e della battaglia di Alessandria di poco successiva (30 a.C.) come eventi dalla funzione periodizzante per la storia greca, nella quale segnano tradizionalmente la fine dell’età ellenistica.
